UN in Kazakhstan Annual Report 2020
31 March 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic meant that 2020 was one of the most challenging years in recent history. The first cases in Kazakhstan were confirmed on 13 March, and by the end of the year, over 150,000 people had been infected and over 2,000 people had died. Beyond these sobering numbers, the pandemic and global shutdowns meant that our work had to adapt quickly to respond to the greater health and other socio-economic needs in the country, as well as to continue our programmes and initiatives designed to support Kazakhstan achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its national development priorities.
