The United Nations in Kazakhstan presented its highly anticipated Annual Report 2023 during two significant events: the UNSDCF (United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework) Steering Committee Meeting at the MFA and an exclusive briefing for the diplomatic corps. Attended by over 190 distinguished guests, including representatives from various government officials, diplomatic missions, and international organizations, the presentations offered insights into the UN's multifaceted efforts and achievements in Kazakhstan over the past year. The events provided a platform for fruitful discussions and strengthened collaboration towards advancing sustainable development goals in the country by three key pillars: Empowered People, Good Governance, Sustainable Economic Development.
The Annual Report 2023, showcases the collective efforts of 27 UN entities in the country towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2023 Kazakhstan moved further on the path of sustainable development, e.g. adopting a Carbon Neutrality Strategy, adopting a new Social Code, accelerating inclusive digital-based service delivery, and taking actions to better protect the socio-economic rights of those at risk of being most left behind.
To foster these achievements, the United Nations has provided policy advisory services and promoted international norms and standards as well as implemented catalysing programmes to advance the SDGs. Our initiatives have spanned from enhancing access to education and healthcare to promoting gender equality and economic empowerment, as well as human rights, all aimed at building a more inclusive society. In 2023, jointly with partners, the UN support to Kazakhstan amounted to $33.3 million.
