Regional Ecological Summit 2026
The Regional Ecological Summit 2026 (RES 2026) was initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023. Guided by the concept “One region – shared challenges – collective action”, the Summit will bring together governments, international organizations, the scientific community, the private sector, civil society, and youth to advance environmental sustainability in Central Asia and beyond.
RES 2026 aims to unite efforts across Central Asia to address climate change and environmental degradation through coordinated, regional solutions that prevent risks, strengthen resilience, and support sustainable development.

About the initiative
The Summit will:
- Advance shared regional solutions to climate and environmental challenges in Central Asia
- Identify green financing needs to support adaptation, accelerate low‑carbon technologies, and enhance environmental resilience
- Promote practical, jointly agreed actions that contribute to long‑term sustainability.
RES 2026 represents the culmination of deepening regional cooperation, providing a platform for Central Asian countries to articulate their climate finance needs, promote joint approaches to environmental challenges, and demonstrate collective leadership toward a resilient and sustainable future.
Eighteen UN agencies are co-organizing 25 sessions and 5 workshops under the following key themes of the Summit:
- Supporting the climate transition;
- Adaptation and economic resilience to environmental and natural risks;
- Food security and the region’s ecosystems;
- Sustainable management of natural resources;
- Combating air pollution and improving waste management;
- Mechanisms for delivering environmental ambition;
- A just and inclusive transition;
- Environmental and digital competencies.
A key outcome of the Summit will be the adoption of a Joint Declaration by the Heads of State of Central Asia on regional environmental cooperation. In addition, the Programme of Action for the Implementation of Regional Ecological Initiatives in Partnership with the United Nations for 2026–2030: Shared Vision for a Resilient Future of Central Asia will be announced. The Programme of Action will prioritize projects in the areas of a regional climate and ecology investment portfolio, nature-based solutions, a regional environmental performance review, the circular economy, and the regional Green School platform.
