UN in Kazakhstan marks 25th anniversary of its presence in Kazakhstan

ALMATY.- Foreign Minister, Mayor of Almaty, First Kazakh Ambassador to UN, first UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan of 1993, and the UN Resident Coordinator placed a commemorative plaque at the hotel “Kazakhstan’ in Almaty where the very first office of UN opened back in 1993.

At the special high level meeting dedicated to the anniversary, UN partners, from the Government, diplomatic community, UN agencies and civil society as well as students recalled the major milestones of UN-Kazakhstan cooperation and discussed the results achieved over the past 25 years.  

The successful history of the UN’s work in Kazakhstan is embedded in the history of Kazakhstan’s successful development over the past decades. And now after 25 years, there is a completely different level of relationship with Kazakhstan. UN now has solid presence with 20 UN agencies located in Almaty and Astana, with a vast pool of expertise in different areas. UN is no longer a provider of foreign aid, but rather Kazakhstan’s partner to work together to resolve some of the remaining development challenges and to maximize the opportunities presented to the country to create an even more prosperous economy, while ensuring that every woman and every man, every girl and every boyperson in every corner of this country would live a life in dignity, fully enjoying the benefits that Kazakhstan’s socio-economic development brings.
