Assessment of Ecological Priorities for Kazakhstan

The report is based on an assessment of the current status, challenges and opportunities for action in sectoral areas of environmental performance (air, water, waste, biodiversity, energy, industry, agriculture, and health) and cross-cutting environmental issues.  It analyzes new and updated national policies and plans, legislation, and institutional framework, established targets and relevant environmental and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators, planned and implemented regulatory and management mechanisms, key recent developments and trends, identified challenges and risks, available scenarios and projections of future developments. The assessment identifies a number of areas in which the country has made progress at the national level. Further development in these areas through a regional approach can mainstream these actions and ensure their long-term sustainability.
